Post 1 Due Fri 1/27

First of all I want to comment on how many comments about the book were extremely vague in their praising. I don't care how popular People Magazine is, they can do better than to only comment in one word: "Enchanting." The same goes for the Cosmopolitan. They should really step their game up. The first thing that I noticed when I began reading was how Alvarez didn't exactly set up much of a plot that would give you an idea of the chronological location of whats going on in the first few pages. From reading the back of the book I thought that the story would start out describing the Garcia's harsh lives in the Dominican Republic, specifically with how their father was involved in the plot against the cruel dictator. Instead the story began in the most confusing of places: some compound in who knows where, presumably the Dominican Republic. There apparently is some sort of party going on in celebration of five years of something yet to be mentioned, with a gathering of people who have not exactly been described yet besides their appearances. The main character at this point is presumably Yolanda, since her name is at the beginning of the chapter, however since the title entails that there are multiple sisters, I haven't seen solid evidence as to who they are yet. As of now I don't know if I will like or dislike this book. It sounds like the plot summary described on the back cover will be introduced through a series of recollections from the sisters.
